PROPAGATION TECH

 

General Job Description: 


Assist the Propagation Coordinator with activities related to growing hardy landscape plants, including trees, shrubs and perennials. Other duties involve planting, pruning, potting, staking, grading, sorting, preparing and sticking cuttings, grass division and processing, and weed control.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Propagation tech follows instructions from the Propagation Coordinator regarding planting guidelines for soil depth and composition, germination time, and moisture levels to ensure that the majority of seeds, cuttings, and divisions grow fully into plants.  The propagation tech will need to harvest or assist with propagating crops.  Performs other related duties as assigned.


Skills and Abilities:
Botanical knowledge – Propagation tech should possess some familiarity with plants and have a basic understanding of plant care, harvesting, and managing air, soil, and water quality
Attention to detail – this role also requires a high level of attention to detail to identify when plants are ready for planting or harvesting or need special care and attention
Communication skills – greenhouse workers tend to work with teams, so they should be effective verbal communicators and able to interact positively and effectively with team members.


Physical Requirements:
Propagation tech spends long shifts on their feet and frequently need to bend over to work with plants, so they should have excellent physical stamina and fine motor skills with their hands.  They will be lifting and moving trays, loaded racks, field clumps of grass(50lbs+), and hand carts and must be physically able to accomplish this.
